VirtueMart Compatibility Statement [Update] Print E-mail

Lately some discussions came up about the compatibility of the upcoming VirtueMart 1.1 and Joomla! 1.0 series, so let's clear things up.

Virtuemart 1.1 will support

  • Joomla! 1.0,
  • Joomla! 1.5 (natively),
  • Mambo 4.6.3
  • and probably the upcoming Mambo 4.7.

So there's no need to upgrade to Joomla! 1.5 if you don't want to. You can find more information about VirtueMart Compatibility in the Developer Guidelines on the Wiki.

Update: VirtueMart 1.1 will support Joomla! 1.5 natively. The current SVN code runs on Joomla! 1.5 with the Legacy Plugin unpublished.

Serr.biz: Joomla 1.5 - True component or legacy mode?? http://www.serr.biz
When you say compatible with Joomla 1.5, do you mean in legacy mode, or a true reworking to be a 1.5 component?

Human: change of plans? http://mythic.tv
In October, it was said that "we have decided to [...] make the upcoming VirtueMart 1.1 compatible to J! 1.5 [...]" ( http://virtuemart.net/index.ph...&Itemid=57 )

I thought that meant that VirtueMart 1.1 would be natively compatible with Joomla! 1.5. If not, when (ballpark) do you think there'd be a VirtueMart that works natively with Joomla! 1.5? Thanks for all your great efforts!

VirtueMart 1.1 will support Joomla! 1.5 natively - the Legacy Plugin doesn't need to be published.

MikeC: ballpark release date for 1.1?
Just hoping to find out a ballpark stable release for 1.1? Also, will the upgrade from the current version to 1.1 be painless? smilies/cry.gif

Ivo Apostolov: Run natively, but does it requires legacy plugin during installation? http://www.joomla-bg.com
Well, it is obvious that it can not install natively on 1.0 and 1.5 at the same time. The installer is obviously different.
So the question is, will it require legacy plugin to be ON during the installation?

I have installed 1.5RC4 and Virtuemart 1.1 beta2 and can not get it to install without legacy plug-in being on. smilies/cry.gif

Scott Billings: I agree - Virtuemart 1.1 does NOT now install withouth the Joomla Legacy plug-in on.
Can you provide a date when the beta with native Joomla 1.5 support will be available? Many thanks!

dont_ask: ...
I suggest people start to help testing instead of keep asking ...
asking won't help but slow down the process

Serr.biz: Update on this project - Or, should we jsut fork?? http://www.serr.biz
Since J 1.5 RC4 is out, and a the documentation weekend jsut passed, we are wondering what the status of VM for Joomla 1.5 is???

Or, should we just fork this project?

I really love those people who are so damn impatient and expect to get an answer right away. And if they don't then they scream, rant, rave, and even threaten to fork the VM project.

I mean really, it's been stated over and over that VM will be natively compatible with Joomla! 1.5 yet they just can't wait.

Demanding will get you no where. Making threats will get you no where. Why not get off your asses and help the VM project, instead of making threats to fork the project.

littlepear: Go team, go!!! http://offsite-built.com
I've just started learning Joomla (1.5 Production/Stable) and am going to try to test (with legacy plug on for now). I threw some coins in the box for you gentlemen. Perhaps all the antsy folk should do the same!

OmegaVector: Ants in my pants too!
I too have ants in my pants, but they won't make me dance, or whine, or complain, or pout. I am patient. I will wait for 1.1 and the 1.1 ecommerce edition.
