VM Affiliate 4.0 - Affiliate solution for Joomla! & VirtueMart Print E-mail
Written by Soeren Eberhardt-Biermann
Thursday, 13 November 2008 12:15

I recently wrote about Jafilia, an open source affiliate solution for VirtueMart + Joomla!.

VM Affiliate Logo I think it's more than fair to also mention one commercial affiliate solution, which supports VirtueMart+Joomla!: VM Affiliate . It's is a complete affiliate solution designed specifically for VirtueMart and Joomla! It is J!1.5 native, and VM 1.1 compatible, yet supports any older version.

It is completely built upon the VM and Joomla! framework, easy installation via a Joomla!-like installer.

It's nicely integrated into the site's frontend, and also uses VirtueMart's administration style in the backend.

Due to its integration in VirtueMart, many tasks that are done manually in ordinary affiliate software, become automatic in VMA, such as commission approval/removal and so on.

VM Affiliate is easy to use, but yet very powerful - making affiliate marketing a much more simple job for any VM shop owner.

You should give VM Affiliate a try.

Just to inform you that, more than one year ago, i had bought VMA wich had broken my Joomla. I had no answer at this time to my several support's request. After i had published a news on my web site about this, i had received a proposal for refund, that i accepted.
Never received the money.
The news is still on my site.
So, be cautious before to buy this program.
Hoping this can help the Viruemart's users not to be desapointed as i was.

Emilian Manolache: VMA IS stable, powerful, and satisfying! http://www.globacide.com
Hello,

I am the main developer from Globacide Solutions, the creators of VMA.
Despite the bad review of Mr. "esperado", which experience dates from 2 years ago, and who WAS given support and assistance yet he wanted a refund instead, VMA 4.0 is really stable, powerful and satisfying. Its features are incomparable, also being almost completely bug-free.
Mr. "esperado"'s issue was due to a small Internationalization issue, for which he was given support and the solution for his issue appeared on our forums those days. Instead, he wanted a refund which did not meet our license terms, since his problem could be solved immediately.
He has created bad publicity everywhere. At that time, VMA was version 2.0, and the support team was smaller.

Now, when VMA has reached version 4.0, being very very mature, stable, and implemented most of our customers' wishes/suggestions, supported by a big support team, has over 300 satisfied customers, some of their sites powered by a VMA affiliate program, can be found on our website in the Live Sites section.

Please test VMA online and convince yourself of its stability, maturity and ease of use.

Thanks and kind regards,
Emilian Manolache

I bought the product the 3 oct 2007.
One month later, with no support neither answers on globalcide forum (but my posts erased ) and a site broken i have to repair by myself by removing the hacks made by affiliate install, i received this (copy and paste) from mr. Manolache in answer to my "bad publicity everywhere":

"OK you will get your money back.
Seriously, I am really and deeply sorry
for the lack of support and I admit it."

And, one year later, by PM here the March 19, 2008:

"Please contact us on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it '> This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , and we will give you the refund today."

But still no refund. Judge by yourself.

Best regards, Christophe.

To the developer: How can i move the images from there to /root/images/vmaff/banners?

I know where can i change the paths from the images, but the counting variable is another one.

We have used VMA 3.0, and when converting our site to Joomla 1.5 we found that VMA 4.0 was released the same day. After a mail to support for upgrade we got answer within 2 hours with the upgrade package.
Great support.

Bosse: Do not purchase if you think you will need support
Before I bought VM Affiliate 4.0, I put a pre-sale question via their page "Contact Us". I received no response.

But I bought component anyway, since it appears to be a good product, recommended by many.

Now I have two critical issues. I have asked the questions in the forum, sent two Tickets in their Help Desk and sent e-mail to supportATglobacide.com.

I have not received any reply. If I get no solution to these two issues, I can not use VM Affiliate 4.0 and have to look for another affiliate component. And 65 euro is out of the window...

So, only buy VM Affiliate 4.0 if you know you can handle any problem without help from Globacide Solutions.

My Small Business: Website support? http://www.mysmallbusiness.co.za
I have been considering buying VM affiliate, but am very worried by what I see on the Globacide forum.
It seems that the support is poor.
I tried to login to the demo on the site. It didn't work. I contacted support, but no answer.
There seems to be an issue with SH404SEF, but this is also unresolved on the support forum.

Globacide Solutions: Comment on comments http://www.globacide.com
Hello everyone,

Regarding the latest posts, we would like to comment the follows:
Support was on holiday during Dec 20 - Jan 17, this is the reason for the pause in support.
The demo site was broken by testers (the demo account has administrator permissions). It was restored on Jan 18 and is available now for you to test.
The SH404SEF as well as some other fixes/requests will be fixed in an update that will be released in a couple of days.
We invite you to monitor our site for updates, news, and upcoming video tutorials, detailed documentation, and participate/discuss suggestions/requests in the forums.
You are welcome whether a customer or just a curious Joomla!/VirtueMart user.

Globacide Solutions: This is outrageous! http://www.globacide.com
Hello,

Mr. Timothy Jacobs, came to our forum asking for support. On his first post, he insulted our software and our work. Then he rudely asked for his problem to be solved. When we noticed something suspicious about him, we searched the database and were surprised to find out that he is not a customer.
When we asked him for a proof of payment, he said his wife purchased it.
Immediately after that, we were stunned to discover that he obtained an illegal copy in fact, from a certain warez website, where he actually used his exact same username "dusterscreations", thanking the uploader.
We have immediately reported the abuse and the illegal copy was removed.
We were also stunned to discover that, the name he gave for his wife, was actually the name of another support team member from another component.

We have commenced legal actions against him for copyright infringement and verbal abuse (also note the subject of his comment).

This is, indeed, outrageous, for a user who obtained an illegal copy and infringed our copyright, to insult our software and work, and also spread bad reviews when we let him know that we started legal actions against him.

Thanks everyone, and kind regards.

cHRIS nORMAN: If people aren't writing praise messages...maybe you should take it to heart? Just a suggestion http://www.normans-tx.com
People take time to criticize when they are mad...often they do nothing when they are happy. In the world of business...especially on the internet, your reputation is built on messages posted online. I have not bought an affiliate program but I want one...BUT...

My advice to Globacide Solutions is this: Take heed from those who are truly pissed at you. You should work to make them happy, work to improve your documentation and customer support. When you quit getting criticized...you've succeeded in fixing the problems.

In the mean time, I will likely buy it to try it and I hope it does what I need and won't cause me to get frustrated too.

Hello Mr. Chris Norman,

First of all, thank you for your advice and opinion on this, as well as for your interest in our software!

You are completely right.
Unfortunately, the majority of bad critics thrown at us is not accurate and is mostly based on issues that are not our fault.

We do absolutely all our best to make our customers satisfied and put a lot of work into this product and we keep on doing that, just to bring the VM community a real powerful stable yet integrated affiliate system.

We invite and encourage you to get our software and assure you that you will not be disappointed.

I bought the package about 2 months ago and had an issue with displaying French characters. I've posted a demand for support. The only answer I received was a request for FTP access to the backend, which I created. Since than, complete silence. Luckily we've managed to solve the problem ourselves but I agree with previous comments, support and documentation are absolutely appalling.

Toby Hammond: Good experience with this component
Hi there

Just for a bit of balance, here is my feedback. We bought this component a month or so ago, and did have a number of initial compatibility problems when testing on our dev site, due to the complexity of our Joomla site. Reading the comments above I initially thought I'd been stung!

However, what a pleasant surprise, I found the support from Emilian to be fantastic. He responded very quickly to our requests (in one case, whilst actually on holiday from an internet cafe), and made some changes and issued a new release version within hours that fixed the specific issue we were having.

We are now up and running with VMA and all seems to be working very well indeed, making us very happy customers. VMA could certainly do with some user documentation, but in our case the great support made up for this.

Best,

Toby, bettergeneration.com

nano: Would you buy a product if nobody replies in pre-sale? http://nanosaver.com
I agree with one of the comments made above.. I think that if there is a lot of noise, you really would need to deal with it. I am interested in VMA, but... I contacted support, wrote a very precise mail with some questions and have not received any reply. I also called several times and never have been able to get through. 65€ may or not be a whole lot of money, but how many of us end up spending quite a bit of money on products that are not as good as they say they are? Over time that amount adds up and we all just tend to be more cautious. The customer comes first, maybe he's not quite the king, ok, but if you really want to be in this business, you better make sure every single customer you might gain, receives the appropriate service. I know how hard it is to balance all kinds of interests with development, customers and God knows what other difficulties, but you will not grow your business with such negative input and nobody else is to blame for that but yourselves.

There are Forum Posts that is over a month old and still no Reply. My ticket has not been looked at for 6 Days now. VMA does not install in Joomla 1,5 - there are files missing and no solution is mentioned by Globacide.

They keep saying we can ask them to install this component but do not give support when we need it. I tried contacting them by Support Tickets, emails, phone & Forum posts to no avail.

Guys I would NOT recommend buying this component if you think you will need support. It is no long December so I don't know what the excuses would be this time around for not supporting the community that buy from them! smilies/angry.gif

fixedmortgagerates: The Know How On Affiliate Email Marketing That Will Kick Start Your Email Marketing Campaign http://www.AffiliateEmailMarketing.com
Using an affiliate email-marketing program is a good tool in upgrading an online business. This entails sending good quality emails to prospective customers to eventually lead them to try your products and services. An important point to remember is that when sending an email, it should not be just about making a sale, but also about educating the recipients of the benefits of the product or service you provide. One should always keep in mind that if the potential customers believe that everything they read is for their welfare then surely they will take the email sender’s recommendation into consideration.

I hear from many people that "Globacide" support is not so good.Sure, is true, but if you take a free script, and all your work was adding "Copyright Emilian Manolake" how do you expect to be able to offer support ?
How do you expect to know what is happening there ? All you can say is: "Please give me a ftp access" and turn at your joint after.

Emilian Manolache: What is this? http://www.globacide.com
First of all, what are you talking about?

Why are you posting using our e-mail address?

What "free script" are you talking about? We have developed VM Affiliate from scratch, and worked hard for 3 years, to get it where it is, by constantly adding features requested by our customers.

Our support is actually good, despite all those bad comments. Everyone can check our list of Live Sites on our websites, to see just a few of the websites that use our affiliate program successfully. That is just a small list, out of 800+ websites that use our affiliate program.

So please stop talking non-sense, especially since you are obviously not a genuine customer, but an annoying (competition) spammer.

Stop confusing genuine users who actually require a powerful affiliate program.

Also please explain what "free script" are you referring to.

I am an english speaking web designer located in New York. Where it may be obvious to some, most likely lost to others (including the developer of this software where ever you reside), it is not professional and will certainly not drive me to purchase your product when your replies are so hostile and accusatory.

Address and support your existing customer base and you wouldnt have to respond to negative posts every where else on the internet. As they say, "Where there is smoke, there is fire."

Manolache Emilian: - http://www.globacide.com
Hello Mr. Matt,

We're not quite sure what you mean in your second paragraph.

About the so-called hostile and accusatory replies, there were indeed, two such cases.

The first one was addressed to a person who was using a pirated version, and was asking for support. When we refused to assist him, he started posting bad "reviews".

The other case was addressed to the "Virtue Affiliate" guys, specifically Ionut Lupu, who started posting in this topic posing as us. He also posted under the name of "Michael Bourke" and a couple of other names, claiming to be a customer. He was just posting bad reviews, so he can increase his sales of a "worse clone".

Our apologies for these apparently hostile replies, but our accusations are based on true verifiable information.

This being said, as there may have been glitches in the software over the years, we have constantly worked and fixed them.

Our Customer Area has today been updated with a new tracking plugin which ensures flawless operation of our software.

And the up-coming 4.5 version, to come in a week or two, will be a completely re-written, MVC, flawless out-of-the-box working solution, which is sure to satisfy all past and future VM Affiliate users.

Should you have any questions or remarks, please do not hesitate to contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Emilian Manolache: Issue http://www.globacide.com
Hello Mr. Jose,

First things first: we cherish, value and respect our customers!

This being said, your statement is completely unfair and rude.

We will state the same things that we've communicated to you via e-mail and support forum, in the support process.

You have had an issue that's completely unrelated to VM Affiliate.

Your server/Joomla! installation is unable to store sessions. This is why you can not successfully login to your Joomla! administration panel.

This is the conclusion that we've drawn after thoroughly analyzing your website using the FTP and backend access information you have provided, again, in the support process.

VM Affiliate does not, at all, interfere with your Joomla! session and Joomla! accounts and access.

Therefore, you are wrongly blaming our extension and raging in bad publicity, instead of communicating with us to work together on finding a solution to your - completely unrelated to VMA - problem.

We're really sorry it has come to this, and that you cannot understand that your issue has nothing to do with our software, and that you should ask your host for help, while allowing us to try and assist you in solving your issue.

Now, for the other community users that you have scared off into thinking there's actually an issue with our software, we'll provide the proof that VM Affiliate has nothing to do with your issue:

Your issue is that Joomla! can not use sessions and cookies.

Mr. Jose's test website is:
http://ebeltex.com/ddx24

If you check the browser's cookies, after reaching this page, you'll notice that there are none, as there should have been, when Joomla! starts a session.

Furthermore, if you're not convinced, please navigate to:
http://ebeltex.com/ddx24/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&vmcchk=1&Itemid=1

That is a VirtueMart page which will directly warn you that Joomla! can't use sessions (and store the corresponding cookies in your browser).

This is happening while we have completely disabled, via FTP, the VM Affiliate Tracking Plugin and Module.

We're really sorry we had to resort to giving this - seemingly unprofessional - public demonstration, but otherwise people might have taken your words for granted and think we are "gangsters" smilies/smiley.gif.

On a more serious note, please communicate with your host, providing them the above link that clearly states that you can not use sessions, and ask for assistance. Otherwise, please provide us a clean Joomla! installation, on your server, that you state does not have this issue, and we'll test installing VM Affiliate on it ourselves, so we can prove your theory wrong and/or find a solution.

Thank you so much!

I've buyed this component about 2 weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. The support is great and the component works like a charm. Couldn't find nothing better on the market, I've tried all the free components but they are too buggy or the support for them is dead.

I hope my post will help someone who needs an affiliate program.

Support is absolute rubbish....Never have i paid for a component or module at such a price and got NIL support with it.?

Messaged the owners in private email and on their support forum till this day they haven't fixed the problem, no responses.

If you do some research into this component you'll find once they have your $$$ you get abso0lutely CRAPPY support or any support if that...

Cant even comment about the program as the problem with the VM Affiliate i cant have people sign up to it full stop..

If these morons dont act soon i will demand a full refund...

I suggest seeking other programs/components/modules to do the work...otherwise you'll be throwing your money away with this one..!!!!!

Thank you Mr. Geoff for your kind words.

As explained in our reply to your latest e-mail, we were very busy working non-stop for VM 2.0 and Joomla! 1.7 compatibility, which was a huge and difficult task.

This has, indeed, previously put the support requests on hold for around 1 week, and we sincerely apologize for that, but, again, as explained in the e-mail, the best support action was to release this update for all users, as soon as possible.

We have finished this update yesterday, and are now resuming full support dedication, and all support requests will be addressed today and tomorrow.

Thank you for your understanding!

Warmest regards!

Mr. Geoff, as explained in the support ticket, there was absolutely no issue/bug with our extension whatsoever.

It was all caused by your Anti-Spam system, mistakenly redirecting all non-core registration pages to the Joomla! core registration page, thus blocking VM Affiliate's registration page and process.

Thank you!

For now, this giant yacht is a fantasy sketch that would cost "hundreds of millions of euros to build.”
