Virtuemart 2 Release Candidate ready for download

The Release Candidate contains a lot new features:

- Media Handler (multiple images)

- Custom Fields (replacing the old attributes, producttypes, variants,...)

- True Child Products in the sense of OOP (unpublished parents can be used as linked product pattern)

- Mail template system

- New Currency Formatting possibilities

- More Modules and Plugins

- New Admin Menu Layout

- Meta Tags

- More Filters and Search Options

- Completely Anonymous Checkout

- Revenue Report

- New Templates

What happend with J1.6 support?

We had started to support J1.6 in a VM2 Beta release, but Joomla does not make this an easy task. Joomla version 1.6 is supported by Jooomla only for a very short period of 6 months and in addition to that they changed so many things again after 3 months, that Virtuemart 2 initially became incompatible again. In approximately two months from now they will already release J1.7.

Most of the work we did was finetuning many details. We added all known currency formats, improved listings, the meta tags and page titles are better for SEO now, improved ergonomics, etc...

The new custom fields system at the moment only supports what was done with variants in the previous version. But the new system should make the "computer configurator" possible.

What is left to be done for the final release?

- Our focus is now on security, speed, ergonomics and on payment/shipment plugins.

- We already added some blockers for cross-site scripting and now we will add more of these and pay more attention to prevent sql injections.

- We will slim down again the code to improve speed.

- We are going to write some payment plugins, for examplel Authorize and PayPal and also a shipment plugin for downloadables.

Known bugs:

- The media handler has some teething problems.

- Recommend a product to a friend is not working yet.

- Custom Fields currently show a few options which are not yet working correctly.

I'm really looking forward to the new VirtueMart however it would be even better if there were comments in the code itself for us who like to hack the code to adjust it to our clients' needs. Virtuemart couldn't possibly contain all possible variations of what clients want, that's why I see that commenting the code is extremely useful, especially since the forum is pretty much dead when it comes to new threads.

Well its a pity that Virtuemart not will be compatible with Joomla 1.6+ and thereby also J 1.7+ soon.

Hope the efforts to cath up with Joomla s 6 m o n t h s release cycle will be a nightmare then and Virtuemart will lagging 1 year all the time...how will Virtuemart ever ever catch up to a new Joomla version then???

Hi guys, I think your job is simply awesome. You do not charge a penny for this AMAZING component so I don't understand why others can dare to complain about "the version they need." I understand your frustration guys, but I have worked with VirtueMart for years now and it is a matter of understanding how things work. Do you want to create a site with VirtueMart? Install Joomla! 1.5! Joomla! 1.6 will die soon AND also 1.7. The long-term release to "worry about" is 1.8. 1.5 works just as fine AND even better considering all the support out there.

Want support for 1.6 sooner? Please donate to the VirtueMart efforts. Otherwise, do NOT complain.

virtuemart it is possible that allows users to register to sell their products to the website.
such as collecting empty ink cartridges, the user logged into his account and in the category Epson puts the amount of its products 10 Epson laser cartridges, HP laser cartridge 6, ... it may close to making virtuemart but in reverse, instead of buying the products we sell our products to the website.
