"The
official VirtueMart Book" in German has recently been published by Addison-Wesley!
This book covers the VirtueMart software and explains its practical
use. Beyond this, it aims at leading the interested reader from
understanding the oroginal idea to developing the final
online-shop-product. The VirtueMart Shop is conceived as a handbook and
reference source. This is what makes the difference to other books and
is expected to make the book attractive to large audiences. Enclosed
you will find a CD with all the software covered in this book The
french translation will be published this summer, an english
translation will be available later this year.

VirtueMart 1.1.3 is a recommended security update, which provides fixes for some security issues, other enhancements and fixes a lot of minor bugs (see the changelog for full details).
Full installation packages and patch packages are available on the download page.
To update to version 1.1.3, login to your VirtueMart administration area and choose "Check for Updates" from the "Admin" menu, then click the "Check now!" button and follow the instructions there. (Or, you can download the 1.1.3 patch package directly , save it to your local hard drive, and choose to "Upload a Patch Package" from the "Upload a Patch" tab.)
If you are using VirtueMart 1.1.0, you must first update to VirtueMart 1.1.1 before updating to VirtueMart 1.1.3.

Now that we all have welcomed the new year, we from the VirtueMart Project can also thank all of *you* who have helped out or donated to VirtueMart. 2009 will be a great year for VirtueMart, that's for sure.
Joomla! 1.5.9 has been released today and you're advised to upgrade, because it fixes a security issue. That's why we have also updated our VirtueMart eCommerce Bundle to Joomla! 1.5.9 today. You can download the 9.5 MB package from our Developer Portal.
Also an important maintenance release - VirtueMart 1.1.3 - is currently being prepared for release (next week), so stay tuned.

Dutch-speaking people now have their first-ever VirtueMart Book! Today Gert Jan Fierlos mailed me that his book "MyStudy VirtueMart" has been published and is available from the Van Duren Media Web Site.

Meanwhile the work on the German VirtueMart Book is nearly finished. It's planned to publish the book at the end of January 2009. The book will be accompanied by the launch of a German VirtueMart web site.

Yesterday I was informed by our Server Hosting Company that one of our Servers must go offline for 5 hours from 11 p.m. (Thursday December, 4) - 4 a.m. (Friday December, 5). They are renewing and reorganizing the Central Power Connection for their Server Center.
This means that for at least 5 hours the Extensions Site, the Developer Portal and JAdCenter are not available. Most of our users worldwide will hopefully not even notice the short outage.
