Francesco Abeni is the lead developer of VirtueMart 1.1 branch since June.

Today he's giving us some insights about the upcoming 1.1.6 release

So Francesco, what's new in the next release?

Mainly it's going to be a bug-fixing release, but on the road we decided that VirtueMart 1.1.6 *won't* support Joomla 1.0 anymore.

Joomla 1.0 end-of-life date was more than a year ago, so we think it's time to move on.

That's a big one!

And it is not the only one. We won't publish VirtueMart files on SourceForge anymore.

We are already present on Joomlacode, which is obvious considering our strong bond with the Joomla community, and of course the files will be available on our own site.

That will also simplify our release procedure.

Is there any deadline ?

We expect to see the first 1.1.6 beta for the end of September, available to all the users so they can help us testing and reporting bugs. The official release date is not planned yet.

In the meanwhile where we can see the progress of VirtueMart 1.1.6 ?

Our developer platform, redmine, is able to show you anything about our work. In particular, in order to see 1.1.6 improvements, you just need to visit http://dev.virtuemart.net/redmine/versions/show/9

Please note that this is read-only for everyone except VM team members. If you have a question or you want to report a possible bug, just use the Dev/Coding forum on Virtuemart site.

So, stay tuned for update!
