Beta virtuemart 1.5 released Print E-mail

The new VirtueMart version 1.5 has plenty of new features and behaviours. We did not intend to add new features, but it was necessary to reorganize some old features and in the process some new ones were created. For more information please look in the Announcements Forum. http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=78259.0

Key features:
- in general *we use now the default joomla MVC pattern*.

- the shop is now vendor based and multivendor capable.

- there is a new plugin system working within Joomla which makes plugin writing for VirtueMart similar to plugin writing for Joomla.

- a new Template system working within Joomla.

- the joomla language file system is used

- a new cart, which is now an true object and holds the user information in a session.

- a completly new calculation system, with a calculation class doing all the work.

- multidiscounts added.

- rule system for tax and discounts added.

- price generation based on costprice (with currency exchange).

- there are now three configurable paths for the pictures of the shop and products.

- new permission object. We did a step to enhance the security, using a permission object.

- new user object.- new user accountmanagment system

- new Imagehandler

- countries and states are configurable

- in general increased the possibility to publish/unpublish (states, country, ...)

- SEF and SSL working with Joomla.- enhanced database layout

- better performance, lower ram usage

Already known "bugs" or partly implemented features.

- manufacturer page not working.

- vendor page is not working atm.

- SEF not working.

- review not working

- coupons not working

- quantity based discounts not working

- the view "featured products" not working correctly

- some configuration settings not working/not used.

- order view has some glitches.

- only a few payment plugins are ported yet

- shipment plugins not implemented, but shippers

- migration tool not finished

For the final release we want to ensure that these features work, but maybe in different ways than in VM1.1. For example, the review and coupons may be implemented as plugins, the featured product page maybe converted in a kind of "check calculated prices of products" view, the manufacturer page is maybe just an autogenerated category only showing products of the manufacturer and so on.
Of course we hope that these release shows that we are alive and that the new VirtueMart will lead the eCommerce scene into a new era and set a new standard.

Try it, download VirtueMart 1.5 Beta 1 and the payment plugin all in one installer now

Brian.com: Not a beta but Alpha
With so many known bugs how can you call it beta, it should be public alpha.

Does it support Joomla 1.6?

edit by Max Milbers: For a developer this are not bugs. This are just not implemented features. But users would try out the mart and talk about bugs. I explained it better in the forum thread, look there to understand better.

dj gooding: maybe next year
At the rate you are going, it will be another year or two before it all even works. By that time tienda or redshop will have the market. You better step things up big time if you even want to be considered an alternative to these other shopping carts that are kicking your trash right now with the speed they are being developed.

the people behind virtuemart is a complete new team since a few months , people who need to be managed and to learn to work together.
what you are seeing in virtuemart 1.5 is actually a complete new product.

that's why it takes so long to be developed
that's why it still has some major bugs

virtuemart has a complete new MVC structure, just look inside it.
it'd be stated joomla 1.6 compatible when joomla 1.6 will become stable: as it's already in a mvc fashion, porting it to the new framework will be an easy and quick task.

we are a true open source project, offering a free and libre software: would you like to speed up dev time ? contribute back and join us! smilies/smiley.gif

yes it great to see this wonderful project, moving ahead, as I am setting up a online business, although small at the moment, the product needs to be stable and fast as i will have over 1000 manufactures and 20,000 products available .

Vituremart Its a good product but I can see this new format being an asset to the joomla e-ommerce portfolia

AndyC: Woudl it help to make VM a commercial extension http://www.concomwebdesign.co.uk
I Like VM, but there seems to be a lack of support and what seems to be slow progress in developing further.

Would it not help to make it it commercial so you can offer more support and progress faster with the development.

I would be more than happy to pay a yearly fee of around £50 for VM and maybe £100 for VM with advanced support.

Though I do have it installed on a few sites. All the other big carts seem to be charging, yet progressing fast. so why not VM

@AlpineWAY instead of whining please checkout the amount of work our team has been doing since april, when the new dev team and the new dev platform were announced. if you can't, because for sure you are lazy, i'm going to show some data: about 500 working hours tracked only for vm1.5 , 3 version release, 1 completely new beta release, real time roadmap up to date is here: http://dev.virtuemart.net/redm...rt/roadmap

JessGurl: No built-in Captcha?
Will 1.5 have Captcha built in or no?

I don't see it as one of the Key Features. I hope it is because i'm hurting for Captcha. I keep getting fake registered users and the site isn't even open yet and hasn't even been promoted publicly.
